Re: Public Transport

The truly very worst possible way for a wheelchair user to travel is by air. They regard your chair as unwelcome cargo, and haul you on board with a modified sack barrow, then dump you into a standard seat - I did this once, NEVER again. I have travelled in disabled sleeping compartments in Amtrak t...

Re: New guy.

With power chairs you get what you pay for literally. Pride do some good inexpensive chairs, but the quality is rough, and they are noisy - they creak and groan a lot. I use one for my inside chair. Most of the time I prefer to be in my Permobil - they are excellent chairs, but are about as expensiv...

Re: Handicapped Parking Space and Braces

If your mobility is impaired and a doctor will sign the application, then get a parking permit. If you can't walk far, do not wear yourself out trying

Re: Shutdown

Being confined to a chair all day gives my mind time to roam. I came up thinking about a comparatively simple idea. Just a thought, but could a warning button be provided for modraters that would warn the troublemaker, and everyone else that they were misbehaving. Asking them to be nice does not wor...

Re: Shutdown

Thank you Daniel for that clarification. I for one will try to be more family than guest. I do feel great affection for a lot of the chatters, and hope others feel affection for me.

This chatroom means a lot to me, and I will support it.

Re: Shutdown

For twenty years, I had dealt with the problems of being disabled alone. I dealt with my wife, who I loved, becoming depressed with my condition, and who four years ago poisoned me food, and cradled me in her arms saying she had put me out of my misery. Fortunately I did not die, but i did go into a...

Re: being a supervisor

Hi Kimber101, All you can do is develop a level of arrogance that allows you to be served by others. It is hard first being looked after if you are not used to it, but if it needs to happen, you have to be able to let it. You deserve help - I deserve help, we have both have things we are physically ...

Hello

Hello, I am new to the forum. I am in my sixties, being disabled since my fortieth year, in a tricked out Permobil chair and living in Eastern Tennessee. I was born in Scotland, and emigrated to the US just three months before becoming disabled.. That sucked big time, at the time. I pissed off a mai...

Re: Losing *everyone* in my life because of disability

Hi, Durzo, Being disabled is something that changes everything - I been this way for twenty years, due to a malicious action of someone else - but that is history. Yes, being disabled can isolate you, make you shunned by everyone - if you let it.  I am gregarious by nature, friendly and easy going -...
