I can't planes I don't have much troubles but there are planes with stairs, I have been lucky not to have been on one exactly, and mine fit under the seat anyway use diapers on long flights so someone in a chair just holds it? yep yuck some planes have chairs that fit in the aisle and accessible restrooms brb do you have to pay extra for that? no but if I were to travel alone, that wouldn't help hum I have only been on a plane once over 20 years ago-terrified me the entire 20 minutes-lol I have to be transferred no me either laura I wud need a bit of help do you all travel alone? I've flown to Puerto Rico and back several times....long way to hold it i have yup I have...I flew to Va I have, yes, but only on short flights this all just amazes me my first solo flight oh Yes but met someone at the other end was very smooth and somewhere where care needs taken care of I flew from VA to Florida i would prefer not to travel alone, have no choice which is rare what about the amtracks? only did that once I've use amtrak twice there is no such thing around here accomodating? yes, and they give discounts to ppl with mobility probs the agents/phone were really great I generally don't travel because I have to pay attendants ticket, accomodations, and time 15% wow but..i got there late, and had reserved special seating, i believe these ppl tood my seating cuz of a lawsuit only place I have ever heard that give the disabled a dsiscount was very uncomfortable on that leg of trip going back was better IC suzze-what lawsuit ms they have train car specifically for ppl with disabilities...lift, HUGE restroom I called amtrack once when I was going to go to Phoenix, ended up not going, but they were great conductor will get food/drinks for you wow 5. Airplanes-is it safe to travel this way when you are handicapped? (or not) i was going to/coming back from a disability conference a couple tried to travel by amtrak...couldn't get around and sued on behalf of ppl with disabilities and won trains were overcrowded w/disabled IC suzze do you go to disability conferences often? no, once a year I go monthly that was only time i was on train wish you would do a meeting on them afterwards really? same with you ms me? are trains were overcrowded w/disabled because they are more accessable then other means of transportation bet you could teach us a lot yes, I'm involved in Partners in Policymaking omg, don't know if i could we graduation in September great would u consider doing a meeting? yikes yes you could suzze lol, my thought exactly heh...on? the meetings what's new what we need to know etc back to question 5. Airplanes-is it safe to travel this way when you are handicapped? (or not) we've had conferences on inclusive education, parliamentary procedure, SS, i think planes are generally safe I haven't had a problem with airplanes i think it is important to talk to the airlines if you are having any problems speaking of paratransit, my bus is late :) 4. List some safety and comfort measures for car travel. heh case in point what is paratransit? dial a ride, minivans i only travel short distances by car oh ok safety measure: take enuff oxygen helps if needed that cover given areas :) IC brink all your meds with you not available to me I feel like I pack a suitcase i'm trying to keep some of my meds in car, so, if i unexpectedly am late, i have meds I went to AAA before my last trip and found out everything I needed to know about the route water, meds, extra pillows, chair, reading material for sitting and waiting but is that safe suzze-heat and all? blanket for car would be great safety measure to have a cell phone yes blanket I have to have a reclining seat we have cell phones...but no service just my diabetes stuff, that's most important IC in the middle of the desert to vegas I have cell phone hum i don't have cell phone:o) me too wish i could I have to wear cervical collar in car yes cell phones can be a lifesaver if car breaks down it came in handy when we were in the flood can't drive vibration on fragile disks i should carry water with me all the time i don't yes, I got cellphone for traveling to Ty's how many of you have wheel chair lifts in your vehicles I do not me...I have a grand am what kind angel? would be hard in trans am just a hydrolic lift to get us in van grand am my mom is it one you ride up on? has a van with lift IC yes I have a lift that raises chair into back of mini van-not with me in it its a van with a lift on it i saw a really cool lift that moved a chair in and out of a pickup bed, you know the wheelchair cowboys here in tx hehe we stay in chairs never seen that before hehe..have those here too even while in car? do chairs lock in place some way? yes we have locks in the van what do you do for a seat belt do you drive Bev? we have seatbelts on our chaors chairs not a t the moment used to drive a car I do too-somewhere *** Reader_13 has joined #disabled-rt hand controls? hi reader oops soory reader we are talking about car riding right now no hand controls on van yet cud you still drive if you had them?
